Best Travel Camera and Lens Combos: Light Kits Under 1.2 Kilograms From Every Major Brand
The best travel camera is the one still around your neck on day nine. That rules out most pro kits. A 1.5-kilogram body and lens feels fine in the shop and terrible after a full day of cobblestones, museum stairs and a strap rubbing your collar.
So this guide sets a limit. Each combo below weighs under 1.2 kilograms for camera and lens together, battery and card included, and covers the shots most trips need: a street, a room, a face across a table and something far away.
The test is simple. Hold it at eye level for ten minutes. If your shoulders complain, it’s too much camera for a holiday.

Sony: A7C II with the FE 20-70mm F4 G
The Sony A7C II weighs about 514 grams. The FE 20-70mm F4 G adds 488 grams, for about one kilogram in total. That 20mm wide end is the travel feature: narrow streets, hotel rooms and big interiors fit in the frame without stepping back into traffic.
If you want reach instead of width, Tamron’s 25-200mm F2.8-5.6 G2, from October 2025, weighs 575 grams and goes from wide to telephoto in one lens.
Canon: R8 with the RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM
The Canon EOS R8 is the lightest full-frame body on this list at 461 grams. The RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM kit zoom weighs 395 grams. That’s under 900 grams for a full-frame travel kit with stabilization in the lens. The R8 has none in the body, so keep the stabilized zoom on it.
For low light, swap in the RF 28-70mm F2.8 IS STM. It’s 495 grams and gives you f/2.8 for night streets and dim churches.
Nikon: Z50II with the Z DX 18-140mm VR
The Nikon Z50II weighs about 550 grams and gets Nikon’s flagship subject-detection autofocus. The Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR adds 315 grams and covers about 27-210mm equivalent with stabilization. Under 900 grams for a do-everything kit, with a proper grip and viewfinder.
Full-frame Nikon shooters can pair a Z5II with the Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR (570 grams), or go further with the Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR at 725 grams. Both make great one-lens trip kits, and both end up heavier than our limit with the body attached.
For style over range, a Nikon Zf with the 125-gram Z 26mm f/2.8 pancake is a lovely street kit.
Fujifilm: X-E5 with the XF 23mm F2.8 pancake
The Fujifilm X-E5 weighs 445 grams. The XF 23mm f/2.8 pancake it’s sold with weighs about 90 grams. That’s a 40MP camera with in-body stabilization at about 535 grams, small enough for a jacket pocket. It frames like a 35mm lens on full frame, the classic travel and street view.
The catch is one focal length. Pack the XF 16-55mm F2.8 II as a second lens, and the kit is still under a kilogram.
Lumix: S9 with the S 20-60mm
The Lumix S9 is a full-frame camera at about 486 grams. With the Lumix S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 it stays light and starts at 20mm, like the Sony. There’s no viewfinder, which bothers people in bright sun.
The one-lens APS-C option
For travelers who never want to change lenses, the Sigma 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS weighs 615 grams and covers about 24-450mm equivalent on APS-C. On a Sony A6700 or Fujifilm X-S20 it makes a complete trip kit in a single lens.
The pick
For most people, the Sony A7C II with the 20-70mm F4. It’s full frame, about a kilogram, and covers the widest range of trip shots. If you shoot mostly streets and people, the X-E5 with the pancake is the more enjoyable camera to carry.
