Fujifilm XF 18mm F1.4 R LM WR Review: A Sharp, Sealed 27mm-Equivalent Prime for Street and Travel
The Fujifilm XF 18mm F1.4 R LM WR is Fuji’s fast wide prime, the one to buy when 23mm feels a little tight. On an APS-C body it frames like a 27mm lens on full frame. Fujifilm announced it in April 2021 at $999, replacing the small and slow-focusing XF 18mm f/2 from 2012.
A 27mm-equivalent view is ideal for busy squares and narrow streets, where you want the buildings and the crowd in one frame without stepping back.

It weighs 370 grams and takes 62mm filters. It’s compact for an f/1.4 lens, and it sits between the XF 16mm f/1.4 and the XF 23mm F1.4 R LM WR.
Video review: Christopher Frost
Strengths
It’s sharp across the frame wide open, according to Christopher Frost, Cameralabs and DCW. That’s rare for a fast wide lens, and it holds up on Fuji’s 40MP bodies. A linear motor focuses fast and almost silently.
Distortion and chromatic aberration are low, and background blur is smooth for a wide lens. It’s sealed at eight points and rated to -10°C. The aperture ring clicks in one-third stops with a locking A position, and the barrel is metal.
Weaknesses
Vignetting is strong wide open, noted by Frost, Photography Blog and Cameralabs. Unlike Fuji’s 16mm and 23mm f/1.4 lenses, it has no manual focus clutch, and Frost found the focus-by-wire ring jerky.
DCW noticed an audible knock from inside the lens when the camera is switched off. It overlaps with the 16mm f/1.4, and it’s bigger and pricier than the old 18mm f/2. The hood is plastic.
Who should buy it
Street, travel and documentary photographers on Fuji who find 23mm too tight and 16mm too wide. On an X-T5 or X-E5, it makes a compact and very capable everyday kit.
If you want a single walk-around lens instead, the XF 16-55mm F2.8 II covers this focal length and more, two stops slower. Our most popular Fujifilm lenses guide covers the other primes.
