Best Panasonic Lumix Travel Camera and Lens Combo Is the S5II With the S 28-200mm
Panasonic has a lighter full-frame camera than the S5II. It has a prettier one, and this year it added a stylish fixed-lens compact. For travel, the S5II with the Lumix S 28-200mm F4-7.1 Macro O.I.S. still wins.
The reason is the lens. At 413 grams, the 28-200 is one of the smallest full-frame superzooms made, and it turns the S5II into a one-lens kit of about 1.15 kilograms. Add Panasonic’s stabilization, which is among the best on any camera, and you get sharp handheld shots of a statue on a plinth, a facade across the square and a close-up of a pastry in the café after.
It’s also a strong video kit, which matters if you film your trips as much as you photograph them.

The S5II and the 28-200
The Lumix S5II weighs about 740 grams and launched in early 2023 at about $2,000. It brought phase-detect autofocus to Lumix full frame, and its stabilization is the standout: steady enough to walk and film without a gimbal for short clips. It has a good viewfinder, two card slots and a grip that’s comfortable all day.
The Lumix S 28-200mm F4-7.1 Macro O.I.S. launched in February 2024 at $899. It has optical stabilization that works with the body’s, and it focuses close enough for food, flowers and market detail. Canon’s RF 24-240mm costs about the same and weighs about 300 grams more.
The cost of that small size is aperture. At f/7.1 on the long end you’ll push ISO in the evening. A small fast prime in a pocket fixes that, or swap the zoom for the Lumix S 24-60mm F2.8 on city trips where nights matter more than reach.
Smaller Lumix options
S9 with the 18-40mm. The Lumix S9 weighs about 486 grams and the Lumix S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3 just 155 grams. That’s a full-frame kit of about 641 grams that starts at a properly wide 18mm, great for tight streets and big squares. There’s no viewfinder, which hurts in bright sun, and the S9 launched at $1,499 for the body.
S9 with the 20-60mm. The Lumix S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 weighs about 350 grams and sells for about $600. It trades the 18-40’s extra width for more reach, out to 60mm.
Lumix L10. Announced in May 2026 for Lumix’s 25th anniversary, the Lumix L10 is a fixed-lens compact with a 20.4MP Four Thirds sensor and a Leica 24-75mm-equivalent f/1.7-2.8 zoom. It weighs about 508 grams and costs about $1,500. The bright lens is lovely at night, and it has a viewfinder. Stabilization is in the lens only, and you can’t add reach.
Which Lumix to pack
For most trips, the Lumix S5II with the S 28-200mm. One lens, about a kilo and a bit, photos and video both covered. If weight is the only thing that matters, the S9 with the 18-40mm is the lightest pairing here.
